If you've never heard of VoIP, get ready to change the way you think about phone calls. VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, is a method for taking a normal telephone conversation, and turning it into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet.
How is this useful?
Because most people already have a broadband (high speed) internet connection already, VoIP can turn this connection into a way to place free phone calls. The practical upshot of this is that by using some of the free VoIP software that is available to make Internet phone calls, you are bypassing the phone company (and its charges) entirely.
VoIP is a revolutionary technology that has the potential to completely rework the world's phone systems. You may well have heard or even be using the skype system. This uses your computer as the intelligence that converts your speech into voip packets. It means that if you buy a cheap (£10-£20) USB handset you can “call” via the computer someone else anywhere in the world that has similar equipment. This is great news for families and friends that end up all over the country or world, but what if you need to speak to them when they are away from their computers ie business users.
Skype and others all have “gateways” where a call can be converted back from voip packets and onto a normal telephone line. This enables the caller to get to a mobile or land line. The good news is that if the call breaks out locally to the final destination the call can be at local rates. This is how these voip companies can provide cheaper phone calls.
You can rent a number from these voip companies so people without skype can call you, but it still means you must have your computer with you.
This is all great news for communications users, In the near future we can all be talking to each other for “free”.
The conventional telephone system though does have some advantages. It allows for many lines with the same number so multiple callers can call into a company and be transferred between each other seamlessly, This usually results in having to rent lines from one company, then buy and maintain an expensive telephone system from another.
We can now offer a solution that combines both technologies and removes the need to buy the system and rent lines, while providing the free / cheap calls voip allows.
The technology is called a hosted voip system. The centre of the system is based in London by an ISP. This replaces the usual telephone system. The phones become IP based phones that use voip to talk to the “system”. We recommend Cisco IP phones as the most reliable.
The technology also allows for WiFi cordless phones that can be used on the move at wireless hotspots.
Each phone can have both a direct dial number (DDI) and be part of a ringing group on the main company number. These numbers can be exported from BT. In addition the phones can have non geographic numbers too, this means they can dial out on 0845, 0800 or 0870 numbers.
The numbers chosen could even include numbers normally outside your geographic area ie London, Leeds or Edinburgh etc numbers. The system works well too if you need to move out of area and can’t retain your BT number. Your existing numbers can be exported from BT and applied to your VOIP phones.
Better still, as these phones all communicate with the central system in London, they can be anywhere in the country or world. You could have people working from any branch or home office all answering the main company number and transferring calls between then just as if they were in the office. All these calls are FREE.
The system includes Voice mail for each user, the ability to forward calls to a mobile, a number to call if the voip phone is out of action and even a “find me” service for locating you if you could be on multiple numbers.
The system also includes full call control from an internet page where numbers can be called, conferences setup and emails can be sent to contacts at the touch of a button. Your voice mails can be collected externally or forwarded to you via email for collection on the move. Caller ID is presented on incoming or transferred calls.
Conference calls can be automatically generated by the system, predetermined users can be called at an agreed time and connected together. The system will even send an email to each delegate. So Managing Partners of multi site companies no longer have to travel together regularly to meet.
We have demo phones to show you this working, we are so confident in its functionality and flexibility we will demonstrate it on your existing network.
