Telephone System Case Study
Company A wanted a small telephone system to provide Caller ID for a database program to provide a better managed service to its growing customer base.
The Solution
The solution here was to provide a system that would be cheap to install now but grow as they needed more extensions, providing the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) they needed.
The system chosen needed to be small but expandable and with all the features. We chose a Siemens Hipath 3350. The phones and expansion cards for this system are compatible with its bigger brothers to satisfy the expandability requirements. The system also has a built in serial connection that is required for the SMDR (Station Message Detail Recording) data the system outputs. This data was then fed into a CTI (Computer and Telephony Integration) Server. The server works out where the call is destined by examining the dialed number, then sends the callers number to the database, where it then searches for a match. If it finds a matching record it is flashed up onto the computer screen of the operator(s) as they answer the call.
This companies telephone lines were upgraded to ISDN to provide the necessary caller information. The policy of this company was not to rely on messaging or Auto attendants but good, old fashioned, humans.
